Em's story goes even beyond this. She was a student who struggeled to activate her globalstudent blog. For some reason, it took us 2months (this was 18 months ago) to actually get her blog going. There were many reasons for this, including forgotten passwords, usernames, lack of understanding of IT and being a very young grade 4 student.
Once Em got her blog (I ended up enrolling for one through gmail as all other means failed and she had no email address of her own other than the school one), she really worked hard on adding posts and content to her blog, some of which are from home.
Students love to brag and put their work online and this also allows them to have a digital portolio of achievements and reflections through out their school life. Prompts given by an external party, such as globalteacher, add interest, variety and trigger responses and thought processes that add to the normal classroom activities.
